Occasionally a camera (silver or black model) is focused too far in one direction. This can result in the internal lens detaching from the focus ring. There is a simple fix for this issue.
Make sure the camera is not plugged in before following these steps!
Step 1. Pop the focus ring off the front of the camera. A good tug should separate the ring from the camera body.
Step 2. Turn the focus assembly several times to the left (4-5 should be ideal). You will feel it growing towards you, which will allow the focus ring to re-engage with it.
Step 3. Pop the focus ring back on the camera body. You will need to align the octagonal shape of the focus assembly with the identical socket on the focus ring.
If you have difficulty mating the focus ring with the camera body after twisting the focus assembly left several times, it may be that you have turned the assembly too many times, and it is protruding too far from the camera body, in which case you will need to turn the focus assembly to the right a few times, and try again.
